Staff Headlands

Juliette Pegram – Manager

Hi, I’m Juliette manager at Headlands pre-school. I joined Haxby playgroups in April 2016 and have enjoyed getting to know our brilliant children, staff and parents. Before a career break to have my own children I was a primary school teacher both in York and down South. I am passionate about early years’ education. My aim is to provide a safe, stimulating, caring environment where all children are valued and reach their full potential. This is achieved through high quality staff who genuinely care for and are interested in the children. I always ask myself “Would it have been good enough for my children” – if not, we do it better!

Catherine Spedding – Deputy Manager

Hi, I’m Catherine, Deputy Manager since October 2016.
I love working in Early Years, seeing the excitement on the children’s faces when they have discovered something new or created something beautiful. I am really enthusiastic about being outside with the children, and I genuinely believe that the best outcomes for children are when parents and practitioners work in close partnership.

I have two daughters who are now in primary school, so I have experienced Early Years from both sides of the coin! I have worked in settings across the city since 2008 when I qualified as an Early Years Professional.
My newest hobby is geocaching, but I also enjoy gardening, walking, and reading. I am a Christian and I attend York Community Church, where I help run the children’s activities. I have also joined a netball club who let me come to training sessions!

Angela Bradley-Wells – Early Years Practitioner

Hi, my name is Angela Bradley-Wells. I have worked for Haxby playgroups since 2009. I am a qualified level 3 Early Years Practitioner. I am married with 2 children, we have a cat, 2 rabbits and a fish.

I love art and craft activities, mark making, numbers and teaching general independence to the children. It is great to hear all the wonderful things they come and say to me and the conversations we have.

One of the things I enjoy most is watching them grow in order to gain the independence and confidence they need to make the transition to school. I thoroughly enjoy been part of this and believe that working closely with parents gives them the best possible start to school life. They are all individuals and have their own personality.

In my spare time I love spending time with my family, gardening, DIY and trips out.

Kim Sheeran – Early Years Practitioner

Hi, I’m Kim and I joined Haxby playgroups in January 2017.  I have really enjoy getting to know the children really well– even at age 2, 3 and 4 the children have such big personalities.

I previously worked in a day nursery. I joined when they needed bank staff, but went on to be made permanent and studied to obtain my L2 qualification in Children and Young peoples’ workforce. I completed my Level 3 qualification in record time in July 2018.

I have three children of my own, who keep me busy when I am not at work. I love taking them for days out places, so the pre-school hours work well for me.

Dawn Dale – Early Years Practitioner

Hi I’m Dawn  I have four children aged 11, 16, 27 and 31.  I came into childcare after graduating in 2011 – Ba (Hons) Education Studies. Originally I planned to go into teaching,  but found my path into early years after completing my dissertation on “ how children learn through play”.  I am an advocate for learning being fun and following the children’s interests – where better to start than at the beginning in pre-school.

I  hold a level 3 qualification in Playwork. In 2018 I completed the accredited Senco course and am now the Senco at Headlands pre-school.

My work background is office and customer service. I love spending time with my family , I have a gorgeous Grandson who is 2.5 years old , and weekends usually taken up babysitting and watching the kids sports activities. I have been at Headlands since January 2017 and I love the children and staff- they make it a genuine pleasure to come to work .

Aimee Hodgson – Early Years Practitioner

Hi I’m Aimee. I joined Haxby Playgroups in June 2016 as Bank staff. In September 2018 I joined as a permanent member of staff. I am working towards my Level 3 Qualification which is hard work but has been really worthwhile too.

Since September I have really enjoyed having my own group of key children.

I particularly enjoy art and craft activities, particularly following children’s interests right now.

At home I live with my two boys and my husband Ed.

Kirsty Higgins – Bank Staff

Hi, I’m Kirsty. I am a qualified ballet teacher and have my own ballet school but I am also a L3 qualified early years practitioner. I have been doing bank work at playgroup since February 2017. I really enjoy working with the children. I love the way they learn to make friends and be sociable and the way they notice what they have in common with each other. I often work outside with the children but I also love the role play area and playing games. Sometimes Juliette asks me to come in and do some special ballet sessions with the children and I really enjoy this.
